Milk is actually often fine for several days after the expiration date. The other nonperishable canned goods are fine for 6 months or even more after there date. Check http://stilltasty.com to see more about how long foods actually last after the dates. I live in the USA. The foods we get here are not like those you mention. We do get inspired goods, but they are almost always edible. I am waiting for next month, when the food of the month is destined to be the hamburg (ground beef) that has pink slime that our major grocery stores are not selling anymore. They have to do something with the meat. Donating it to the food bank makes a lot more sense then throwing it out. I'm not complaining, because I am grateful for the foods we do receive, but can see your point.

You could always get a job and buy your own food and you wont have to worry about getting out dated food.
