The food bank gave us mostly expired items. Should we eat them?

We've fell on some serious hard times. My husband's work just closed down two weeks ago and we needed to go to the local food bank to get some groceries and make end's meet. Thankfully, my husband will start work at a new company next Friday so thins will improve... Well, I'm really thankful that...

Anything dairy you should be really cautious about, but if it 1. Looks Okay and 2. Smells Okay it SHOULD be okay to eat. If it tastes fine, it's fine, but if it tastes off at all, throw it away. Perhaps give an anonymous note to the food bank?

I most certianly would not eat them! I too have used food banks and its not uncommon to get food thats past expiration. They many times get things from local markets who can sell past these estimated expiration dates. But yogurt and milk, please... I would inform the food bank of your concerns because since they are obviosly there to help people, by speaking to a person in charge perhaps they might have just been unaware. It's not being ungrateful, but your health is most important, and that if your baby.
I guess if you are desperate, just open it and take a sip of the milk. You will know if its gone bad!Things like shelf stable stuff should be fine. Freeze anything you dont plan to use immediatly. Good luck!

That seems to happen a lot. It has happened to us in the past. We usually throw ours away, especially yogurt or milk or something like that. I would try some other food banks to get some food that is hopefully not expired!

Personally I have eaten yogurt that has been expired longer than that from my own fridge and it is fine. Taste the milk..you will know if it is going sour or not. Best before dates are guidelines..it does not mean it is immediately bad the day after the date. Common sense.

It all depends on the product, the milk & yogurt I would cautious even in the supermarkets they do not have a long shelf life as with any dairy products, unless of course if its powder. Just open them and give it a sniff if should smell right if it is off.

I myself have eaten items such as you describe. I have a very sensitive stomach but haven't had any problems. I'm not gonna tell you to give it to a kid though.

hi i like fun

depending on what it is and how old it is i would eat it.
