How do you get in and out of a rec kayak from a river bank or dock without touching the polluted water?

I can get in and out of my yak when in open water no problem, and I can get in easily by wading into the water when that's an option. But when I'm paddling in lakes filled with human or cow dung, I have trouble getting in from banks or docks. Every time I have to "portage" I find it tough,...

Find Jesus. Really. If you can find him he'll pull the bow up on dry land for you. I hear he's cool like that.

If Jesus isn't around you'll want to take a good run at the bank (head on) and lean back just before you hit bottom. Then scootch (is that a werd?) up using your paddle until you can step out on dry land. If the bank is steep or you're pulling out at a dock it shouldn't be a problem. Use your paddle to stabalize the yak, set your beer down 1st, then get the hell out.

Glad to help!

Get shallow enough to rest the kayak's bottom on the river bottom if possible, and use the paddle to help steady you. If the boat is bottomed out, you have a better chance of standing up without tipping.
