Depends on where you live, and the size of the bank, and how good of a customer you are.

A few years ago, I cashed a large check given to me by my mother-in-law (who banks at Wells Fargo) and they called her to confirm the transaction. I've also had my credit union call me to verbally OK some large checks I had written to contractors.

Large banks in large cities don't generally provide this level of customer service. Smaller banks might -- ours certainly does.

I've never known any bank to call for any reason when someone cashes a check I've given them.

Of course, I don't recall bouncing a check for the past several decades, either, so maybe times have changed?

No the bank does NOT call you. If it bounces you receive a written notice with the amount of your penalty included

these days no bank will be calling you ever. If you overdrew/bounced something then you will receive in the mail two overdraft notices and they will tell you owe them $70 or more.
