Okay here is the deal...

1.) If you owed the IRS money, they contact all banks in the state and run your name and social security number to see if you have an account. Then that order the bank to hand over whatever money you owe the. If it is just partial, they will take it and you still owe the rest.

2.) The bank did not take your money, they do not have choice when they IRS gives them a judgment they have to obey or they can be shut down by the state.

3.) As for the name change, Commerce bank was purchased by TD Bank.

4.) I am sorry about the loss of your money. Your best bet is to contact the local IRS office and ask to meet with an agent to get on some sort of a payment plan. If you owe more than $10,000.00 you can contact one of those tax negotiation firms and they can help you lower your tax bill and get you on a plan. They will keep taking money from your account until they get all of what they are owed. It does not matter what bank it is, the result will be the same.

Good luck to you!

The IRS or STATE can take your money from your account if it is a debt that is owe to them ITS THE FREAKIN GOVERNMENT. You should have known this and also any collection agency can get the money from your bank if they get a order the judge to do. This is a reason to not trust banks or the government but haven't you been reading/watching the news? Obama has said in his speech's that it may not happen this year or next year, maybe not even in this term, but it will happen his next term(what if it is not a next term) Please start looking out for yourself and stop believeing these people talk around election time that they are going to help you anyway Good Luck and Take Care

The government has the right to seize the money in your bank account if you owe them taxes. If you have a problem, you will have to take if up with the tax man. The bank has no control over this issue.

I don't know what they mean about a leveraged bank account, unless you have overdrawn your account.

The reason you bank has changed it's name, is because it was sold to TD. Count yourself lucky, TD is a solid bank, with good capitalization that is not going to go bankrupt (unlike some).

if you owe the state money and haven't been trying to pay it back, they can take your money. don't blame Obama for your mistakes, technically he is not the President yet. sorry!
