Well, the Outer Banks includes a large area so it mostly depends on where you are staying on the Outer Banks or how much driving you are willing to do.

In the northern part, Duck/Corolla area, I would go see the Currituck Beach Lighthouse.

In the area around Kill Devil Hills/Kitty Hawk/Nags Head, some really interesting things to see are the dunes where people hang glide. Also, if you are interested in airplanes and history, the Wright Brother's Memorial is good.

There is also the North Carolina Aquarium and the Botanical Gardens. The aquarium is on Roanoke Island. The play, The Lost Colony is great to see too, about the colony that just completely disappeared.

If you head south on route 12 to Hatteras Island, there is the Bodie Island Lighthouse. There is the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge. The beaches in this area are very uncrowded and relaxing. Further south in Buxton, there is the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and some really nice beaches that are flat and you can walk out in the ocean a long way.

In the village of Hatteras, you can take a ferry over to the island of Ocracoke which has a really interesting little village and another lighthouse.

The southern part of the Outer Banks, Buxton, Frisco, Hatteras, is more relaxing and not as commercial. The Nags Head area is more commercialized with more people.

Here is a website that might help.
