With the economies slightly coming back up I'm finally working again but receiving minimum wages... But I don't know what bank to open an account with to save up my money...

Are you eligible for membership in a credit union? Banks are paying less than 1% interest right now, but some credit unions are paying more. Check around among the credit unions available to you to see which ones you are eligible for and what rates they are paying.

Are you paying rent to the folks you are staying with? If not, you should be. Perhaps that's what she's getting at--she wants you to pay rent and she's willing to take half your paycheck--which can't be much if you're earning minimum wage. Have you negotiated with your "hostess" for how much rent she's willing to accept under the circumstances? Are you eating all your meals there as well as living there? Are you contributing to the grocery bill? You can't expect her to continue to put you up for free now that you are working.

You should have a savings account in your own name. You should have a checking account in your own name. Check out credit unions for the best deal.

You should be paying rent where you are living and contributing to groceries. Negotiate with your landlady.
