You have to ask your bank this question. You didn't even mention the name of your bank so there's no way anyone here can answer. When you call your bank, also ask them what kinds of fees are involved with this kind of transfer because it may not be the best way for your brother to give you money if it will cost more than, for example, using Western Union.

Good luck.

Your bank will accept the transfer, but they will contact you asking if give your permission to change the money from dollars to sterling, (there is usually a charge for doing this). Well thats what happens with Lloyds at least.

Not sure if you can pay dollars in sterling account but he could send it to via Paypal for a percentage fee.

It is fine, it will work.

Your brother will just need to provide:

Your full name
Adress of the bank
Your IBAN Number
Sort code number
Account number
and eventually SWIF number

Unlikely it can be done online. Probably have to complete a form, with your bank's IBAN, and Swift number needed.
