I would ask the bank why the fee went to you and not her? Thats stupid, anyone could cancel a check and it' shouldn't be the recievers responsibility.
But otherwise like the first answer said...ask if the will let you off with the fee, they might do it as a one off.
EDIT* That's good, from now on only accept cash from her, and ask for it upfront. And if she's difficult about it just tell her you need to pretect yourself becuse $32 is a HUGE ammount of money for someone your age. Don't tell her they reversed it.
Ask the bank to reverse the fee because some banks reverse a fee one time as a courtesy thing, if not I would tell the lady she is responsible for the fees!
Refuse to babysit for her until all fees are paid for. If she doesn't, pass the word around about her. Make sure she'll never be able to leave the house without taking the kids again.

Of course it's not fair for her to be doing what she did.That's life..it's harsh so get used to it and use this as a learning lesson to NEVER accept another check again unless it's a paycheck.
you sue her in small claims court through your local magistrate.
It's not a criminal matter, but the police can tell you how to find the magistrate.
