Your boss was inaccurate in his language. You CAN'T bank with Macy's because Macy' isn't a bank. On the other hand, they are REQUIRED to offer a means of getting paid if you don't have a bank account. How they do this is partnering with a bank to offer a 'pay card'. This is basically a prepaid Visa/MasterCard to which your pay is deposited. You CAN'T use a prepaid card you purchase somewhere else because the card CAN'T accept direct deposits from Macy's.
