Is Princeton, NJ, West Windsor, NJ, or Red Bank, NJ good places to live?

My two friends and I will be done with graduation soon. We're from the South, and we wanted a fresh new start in a new place. But we are all so freaking close, that we decided to move to a new place, and settle down there together. So 3 ladies from the South moving up North. I was born in NY, but after being so...

Well, all of my grand daughters are southern ladies, so let me do what I can to help.

My first question is what City are you referring to?

None of those locations are quick or easy commutes to either Philadelphia or New York. They are an easy hop to Trenton, but I don't think that that's what you had in mind. I happen to like those communities, and a friend of mine lived in Princeton for several years, until the commute almost killed him, and he moved by Pennsylvania. I am positive you can find lots of places closer to New York, if that is what you are after. I have family in north Jersey, and there are plenty of nice suburbs within twenty miles of Manhattan.

My second question would be, why New Jersey? Don't get me wrong, I like NJ. I even lived there for a while. But, it has much higher taxes than PA or DE, and I suspect that it is pretty close to NY ion tax rates.

If the City you speak of is Philadelphia, there are great suburbs in Pennsylvania. Large portions of lower Bucks and Montgomery counties are nice, pleasant suburbs and Most of Cheser County is suburban and rural.Delaware County has some rougher edges but it has some good suburban neighborhoods the are very economical.

Of course, if it has to be in New Jersey, there are nice suburban communities in Canden and Gloucester Counties that are much closer to Philadelphia and probably offre lower priced real estate.

My recommondation for three young souther ladies would be any of the communities in Lower Merion, Abington Townships in Montgomery County; or any of the communities in Radnor Township in Delaware County or Tredyffrin Township in Chester County. For a nice small town with a youthful population, I would definitely recommend Conshohocken.

Well, I didn't answer your question, I guess. But, I would not live in any of your choices and commute to either Philadelphia or New York. Sorry, Good luck y'all.

Well, Princeton & Red Bank have the better downtown area, and more things to do. Princeton & West Windsor have the better train service to NYC (though the Princeton Junction parking lot doesn't have much available parking). Red Bank is the most diverse, if that matters to you. The schools are pretty good and crime is fairly low in all those areas.

Steve from PA

Princeton..Ivy league univ town...the living doesnt get much better...West Windsor..upscale rural living, expensive but nice..Redbank, small urban living with bad and good sections..

Hey gals! =] Check out Citydata.com. Type in your cities & check out the recent posts forum that's under the cost of living index.

EX: http://city-data.com/city/Princeton-... ~cost of living is 125; US average is 100... soo, probably not the best financially for young college students?

Best to you three & your academics! =]

Have a happy New Year! =]
