If our economy fails - your going to have a lot bigger issues than just your assets. And the coffee can suggestion would be a pretty good idea as well, just don't forget where you buried it.
I used a Coffee Can and Buried it in my yard! It was still there when I went back and Dug it up. Use a Plastic Can, they do't Rust.
