Most banks in the US do NOT do currency exchange. And Bank of New York hasn't existed in over two years.

The banks that do provide currency exchange service usually have one or two branches in a city that do it. You can find many currency exchange places in the city, especially in the tourist areas and at the airport.

HSBC will purchase foreign currencies for you, but I'm not sure about exchange. CHASE will.

However, it depends on how much you have left. If we're taking about 20-30 Euro, it's almost not worth it because of the commission they take in exchanging it for you--bank or Travelex. In which case, wait until you know of someone who's going, approach that person and simply suggest "Hey, I've got some Euros I can sell to you at the current exchange rate without a commission. What a deal!"

Not every bank will change currency if you're not an account holder who gives them a few days notice. All Chase branches in Manhattan have non-US currency available, so they're your best bet for changing euros to dollars.

You can try the Travelex Currency Change office in the Manhattan. There is one on 32nd Street between 6th Avenue and Broadway.

Good luck

You just go inside and tell them you need currency exchange.
