Chase, Citibank and Bank of America have the most locations in Brooklyn/NYC. I would choose one of these banks so you can save on ATM fees.
HSBC is ok too. They are just not as convenient.
Are your parents going to be sending you money? My suggestion in this case is to use paypal. Your parents can send you money from their bank and in their currency and you can receive it into your bank in dollars. I am not sure how good the exchange rates are but I use it for US/UK and US/AUS transactions all the time.
HSBC exists in Brooklyn, the other two don't.
At this point almost all American banks have similar exorbitant fees and poor customer service -- it doesn't much matter what you choose, just make sure there are ATM locations convenient to your home and school.
I know HSBC is in New York. According to their website they have 10 branches in Brooklyn.
