Banks in Imperial, CA

Answer (2):

underexposed...

there are 5 major banks in Canada as a whole...Royal Bank of Canada, Toronto Dominion Bank, Scotiabank (Bank of Nova Scotia), Canadian Imperial Bank of Canada and Bank of Montreal. Then you have other banks such as National Bank of Canada, HSBC Bank, Canadian Western Bank....besides that there there are credit unions which are much smaller but often offer their services for less fees.

As far as simple interest bearing investments all banks are basically the same...they have similar types of accounts and fees (the fees for service usually cost more than the small interest the accounts pay. Credit unions are more customer oriented in general and usually have less fees and higher interest rates.

this is a website at the University of Manitoba which helps international students and this page addresses banking and what you need to open an account.

You should know that the banking system in Canada is pretty sound...no bank in Canada had any serious financial difficulty during the financial crisis in 2008-2009.

As an alumnus of University of Manitoba...a long long time ago....good luck in your studies.

If you have international transactions with your home country...I would probably look at the five major banks

You may want to consider an online bank that has access from Bangladesh also. You may want to consider ING Direct.
