What if they gave every man woman and child in the U.S $10,000 instead of bailing out the banks (same money)?

What if "they" gave it? Who is "they?" By "they" do you refer to me and you, the taxpayer? What sense would it make in taking money away from you and then skimming some off for administrative fees, and then giving it back to you?

Actually, the government couldn't tax you this money to then turn around and give it back to you - they would simply just print it up on paper. The more printed money that they make will lower the value of each dollar.

To put it simply, it would be like taking $1 from you and then turning around and giving you $2 - except that the $2 you just got now buys less than $1 worth of "stuff."

what?

that wouldn't help anything - it would just be straight inflation.

your life savings would drop in value overnight. on the whole, you might very well lose money in real terms.

not to mention 10k per person would be more than 3 trillion dollars, which is considerably more than the 700 billion that the current plans are costing.

It is a brilliant damn plan. Though, I'm not sure if the government will want to do it.
