Go with the flow

Are there any credit unions close to your home, or where you get your groceries?
Google them, or just call them and ask.
Credit unions are known for offering free checking.
But... first call your bank and make sure that you will be charged these fees.
They can "waive" certain charges for senior citizens or they may have an account for seniors receiving government checks.
Talk to your bank first.

Credit unions often will waive the monthly service charge if you have automatic direct deposit (e.g., paycheck or pension). They might have a minimal balance however; you'll have to check with the local credit unions since each one sets up their own fee schedule.

I'm the happy users of two credit unions for my normal banking needs over 18+ years. I haven't paid a dime in monthly fees throughout that time.
