Was Scottie Pippen really the first player to "bank" shots off the backboard?

I was watching "NBA Hardwood Classics", and Scottie banked it in. The announcer said that Scottie was the first person to actually revolutionize the "bank" shot. Yeah, their have been people before him that have used it, but not as much as Scottie, and that Scottie popularized it. Is that...

LMAO No, No & No. The only way anybody could say Pip revolutionized bank shots and be SOMEWHAT truthful is if they meant he was the first guy to make throwing the ball as hard as you can at the glass a shooting technique. Pip was such a brick layer that his best shot was a running straight on 3 pointer off a fast break because he learned after several years that his momentum would get the ball to the rim. Heck, even at that at least 10% of those shots were off a bank!

Young blood it's about time you learned this about broadcasting. Anytime you put a microphone in front of someone and ask them a question about somebody they like, that person will say some of the dumbest (insert expletive here) in the world instead of saying the truth. The truly GREAT people, no matter what endeavor, leave peers in awe and almost speechless when asked to commentate on their accomplishments. That's why athletes like Joe Louis, Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, Wilt Chamberlain, Jim Brown have people shaken when discussing their feats.

Well, it's what the announcer said. He "revolutionized" it, basically made it popular.
