I am now switching banks to chase tomorrow. I have heard great things about this bank and feel they have a lot to offer and have good hours and customer service. Of course I know all banks are pain in the asses and they are all really the devil. I have had a few banks since turning 18 and have to say I have only...

According to Government compliant centers, Bank of America has the most complaints of all banks combined. Chase is second worst. HSBC and Wachovia (now owned by Chase) are rated as poor also. I've personally had trouble with Old National Banks.

The highest rated places are actually credit unions, although they don't have as many ATM's around. If you can live with the somewhat limited accessibility, credit unions are the best in service.

There is no best bank, best credit union, or best bank account. You need to look at the totality of the bank’s services, accounts, and fees. Every bank offers several accounts with different features and different fees. Some banks may have low overdraft fees, but high fees in other areas. Some accounts waive all fees if you maintain a minimum balance. Other accounts have a monthly fee, but no fee on each transaction. Other accounts have no monthly fee, but a fee for each transaction.

Some banks have a large number of ATMs which you can use without a charge. Other banks have a charge for ATMs.

I suggest that you visit several banks. Find out the features and charges of each of their accounts. Find out how many ATMs are available, and whether there is a service charge for using the ATM.

Make sure you get everything in writing. Do not accept anything the customer service person tells you verbally.

I personally have a major problem with Chase. They hired a man who had been arrested for Fraud, harassment, and trafficking counterfeit goods. When told about this man's history, they ignored the problem. He is still employed by them.

I dislike Bank of Feemerica, but as far as I know, they don't hire criminals.

I don't think that banks are the "devil" by any means. I don't always like their policies, but it's better than a shoe box under the bed.

Is anyone in your direct family military? If so, look into USAA. Chances are you also have a different local bank. These banks tend to have the best customer service, as long as you are a good customer.

I love Chase and use them all the time. I also use a local to me Credit Union. They have lower loan rates and higher savings rates.
