Physics wise, what are the differences between flat track roller derby and banked track?

Share |

I know the main differences have to do with the speed of the skaters and the force of the impacts when the skaters are hit and fall, but i don't understand why or how these things are different on the two tracks. Can anyone compare and contrast the physics of the two tracks in detail?
Please and thank you! :)

The difference is in the name: Flat Track roller derby is played on a flat surface (concrete, wood, or sport court). A track may be taped off with rope lights or duct tape at any flat location, usually at a skating rink. Banked Track roller derby is played on a banked surface, sloping upwards from the inside of the track to the outside edge, usually between a 35 and 45 degree angle. A banked track is made of plywood, steel, and masonite
