Online Banking with Washington Mutual?

Share |

I've used Washington Mutual as my bank for over 5 years, but lately, I've been thinking of using their online bill-paying services. Does anyone else use them also? How reliable is the service? Have you had any problems? What about online security? Does anyone recommend a different bank? If so, why?

I have used Wamu for a year now, and my g/f has been using them for much longer. We both do online Bill Pay and the service is convenient, efficient, and best of all, free. Some other banks charge a monthly fee for the service (e.g. Wells Fargo).

There have been only one or two times when I found the site to be slow or unavailable. I was less happy with Wells, and can't speak for or against B of A.

The only complaint I have about online banking is that it makes it easy to NOT record your checks in a register, and so you may not know how much is in an account, and that could make you subject to overdrafts. Unfortunately, I speak from experience. Talk to your banker about overdraft protection to make sure this doesn't happen.

The web sites are secure, so your information is safe as it leaves your computer and makes its way to the bank. In all cases, whenever you enter sensitive information on the Web, make sure the URL (i.e. web address ... www-something) starts with "HTTPS". The "S" is for secure, and indicates that the information being transmitted is encrypted.

I have never used Washinton Mutual, but I do all my banking online. I haven't written a check in years.

I use Bank of America and recommend it. All banking sites will have plenty of security, but you always want to use your home computer and make sure you have plenty of virus protection and/or a firewall.

Actually - I have a Wamu credit card and it is fantatsic as the online feature allows me to check my credit Score FREE. I do not know of any other bank that allows this.

Of yeah - online billpay is fine. takes a few days to process depending on the company but I have found no problems.
