Looking for a cheap bank in Ireland?

Share |

Hi everybody,

I'll move to Ireland from July and I'll need a bank. Do you know a cheap one? I made a quick search on the web and I didn't find anything interesting. Is there any online offer? It's often much cheaper and sometimes even free.

Thanks in advance!

Trust me I'm a Doctor ♥

You need to define your use of "cheap" really also do you mean an investment bank or day to day current account?

Deposits are covered by the govt. bank guarantee scheme up to €100,000

Most current accounts attract bank charges both for lodgments and withdrawals. Permanent TSB did have completely free banking (I bank with them) but I'm not sure if that offer still stansds. Allied Irish Bank offers current accounts with free banking (apart from a quarterly fee of €4.25 I think) as long as you make one transaction in each 12 week period using your laser card and do one transaction using phone/internet banking.

All laser/debit cards carry a govt. levy which I think is €20 annually, same with cheque books.

Common Sense

With the major problem the banks have in Ireland... on the brink of collapse..... wouldn't be wiser to look for a stable bank... one where you can't lose your deposit due to financial disaster?
