Your figure kind of implies that there is not much difference between soccer and basketball nations. So there is no use breaking my little brain to figure out which is the sport for bums. Note that 3 countries (Argentina, Spain, and Germany) are both soccer and basketball nations.
However, statistics, as well as FIFA ranking, sometimes can be misleading. Interpret with caution. Put too much into it we will end up in a crisis like what sub-prime market doing to financial world. FIBA's rankings are a joke, how in the he11 is Argentina ranked #1 in basketball over the USA? I mean, the USA only won by 20 over Argentina in the Olympics. I guess we'll see in August / September in the World Championships. And get Egypt out of the Top 10 in FIFA. Bottom line is these are the 2 most popular sports in the world and are easy to play, therefore they are popular amongst rich and poor nations.

What I mean by that is if you go to a 3rd world country, thats the sport they will most likely be playing since its cheap and easy to play. You could have a 5 on 5 soccer game but you can't have a 5 on 5 baseball game.
