When you open an account at a bank they may require a credit check, depending on the type of account you open in person. If you open one you are also giving them permission (read the contract well) to do a credit check, and look at your credit score and report. The unpaid Chase account will likely be on it. Chase may come after you in time, depends how much they lost.
