Animal Control job sounds like a job working for a local county, city or township, which means a government job. He should only be applying to such a job through an official channel for this job through the HR office itself or some .gov type website. Otherwise, it sounds like a scam to me and they are using this job description to trick people into providing this information.

As part of the job application for many jobs in the private sector (non government jobs) they often ask for permission to get your credit report, to make sure you aren't living a troubled life.

This "job" is a scam. I really really really hope your boyfriend was not dumb enough to give them his banking info.

edit: There is no reason why they need banking info on an application, even for a government job. I just got done job hunting for my boyfriend and I, we've both applied to hospitals and school districts and the city, and none of the applications wanted our banking info. I was considering applying for an internship with the CIA a couple years ago, filled out the whole application, and even they did not want my banking info. Also, asking questions about marital status is illegal. Something is not right with this job at all.

Sounds like a government job. Many municipalities require full background checks of all their employees, including a credit check and a criminal records check.

This is a legitimate job -- it's advertised at the city's official Web site. If he wants to work for them, he needs to provide the information they ask for.

EDIT: It's perfectly legal to ask for a picture, and it's actually perfectly legal to hire by looks. The only thing it's not legal to use a picture for is to screen out applicants by apparent race.

(But I'm sure they actually want the photo so they can match it to existing mug shot databases.)

As rtfm says, this job is listed on the FlowerMound website. But where is your bf asked to send this application? And where did he find it? Just because there is a legit job doesn't necessarily mean that someone can't use that job description as part of a scam.
