Is the west side of Red Bank, NJ really all that bad in terms of crime and livability?

My wife and I are thinking of moving there from Jersey City. Houses on the west side are significantly cheaper on the west side of Red Bank than on the east side. Why?

Banks in Deal, NJ

It just so happens that, just at this moment, I am researching Red Bank. I am currently in a suburb of Atlanta and am looking to relocate back to New Jersey (where I am from originally). I targeted Red Bank because it is a really nice city, proximity to beach, and commute into Manhattan. However, it appears that the West Side is saturated with a large population of Illegal Immigrants (mostly Mexican). It also appears that there is a good deal of 'Blood' gang activity, prostitution, drug dealing, etc. I thought Red Bank was a 'Yuppie' type area for families with professionals commuting into NYC. I was really shocked that my research gave this information. It seems that the public schools on the West Side are mostly Latino, as well. I am an African American who would ideally love to live in Upper Montclair, but am a single mom who cannot afford that township. I was hoping Red Bank was the answer- alas, I think not. I have enjoyed such a great quality of life down here, that I cannot bear to live near anything remotely resembling 'criminal activity'. Personally, I'd prefer to minimize my family's exposure to that element of life. I am being straightforward, and not racist. Living in close proximity to gang activity and illegal immigrants is out of the question.
