I live in West TX, I saw a sign today written all in Spanish, except for the bank name; now my query, WHY???

Share |

First let me clarify...I am not racists or prejudice....my query comes because I have been all over the world and of the places that I have been, I have not seen signs written in English along the highways. If I were a Spanish speaker, I would be insulted that the sign makers and others believe that I can not learn...

This country was settled by English speakers. Over time, the populaton change. Currently, a HUGE proportion of our population speaks Spanish. Within 10 years, it will be almost one-third. In Texas, the proportions of Spanish speakers are even higher than in most other places. Doesn't surprise me therefore that signage would be posted in Spanish. Where I live, lots of signage is also posted in Chinese because we have so many Chinese speakers here.

As for bschaf13, I would suggest that if HE doesn't like the fact that this country is changing and will continue to do so, that HE leave.

This country is a growing, changing place. That's one of the things that makes it great.

Because they're trying to reach Spanish-speaking customers who wouldn't understand an English sign. There's probably a lot more English-speaking potential customers, but every other bank is already competing for them. So this is probably a pretty good move.

It's because there is advertising dollars involved in it. And it is the melting pot I have seen many ads written in different languages it's just that spanish speaking people are high in those parts. And by the way... I'm brazilian and you wrote portuguese wrong.

They are trying to reach the Spanish-speaking demographic through their advertising. It's that simple.

Spanish-speaking people have money too, and they want a part of the action.

Yes it's bulls**t. Liberals want us to placate the friggin' Mexicans. My family has fought for this country. We WON. Whatever happened to "When in Rome do as the Romans do"? First we are told to look away them when they come into our country illegally. Then we are told to endure, when, they don't pay taxes. Then we are told to smile when they take welfare, and free hospitalization. They also tell us to teach our children spanish to accommodate them.
Lets see. When Americans went to war. THEY WENT BACK TO MEXICO. When the Trade Center fell, and the country thought that we were under attack, THEY WENT BACK TO MEXICO. They want to benefit from all of the things that Americans have fought and died for, but they don't want to pay for it. They murder American police to enable their drug trade. And still yet we are told to "accept". I for one will not "accept".
I say to hell with them. I say keep them in Mexico. I say f**k 'em.
