I just moved and want to find a good bank in my neighborhood (Northville, Mi) any suggestions?

The closest to me are La Salle, TCF, Charter One, and Comerica. I would prefer a credit union, but it seems there aren't any very close to me. What are your thoughts on these banks, or do you think very highly of another that I didn't list that might be worth a little more traveling?

Michigan’s newest bank is located right here in Northville! Main Street Bank received its State of Michigan Banking Charter and FDIC insurance authorization in late 2003 and opened its doors for business March 1, 2004. The Main Street Bank team is headed by its founders, Rick Shaffner, the Bank’s CEO and Audrey Mistor, its President. Rick and Audrey saw a need for a community bank in Northville, believing the town could benefit from a hometown approach to banking. Both Rick and Audrey are Northville residents and are active in the community through the Downtown Development Authority, Northville Community Foundation and the Northville Rotary, to name a few. Members of the Bank’s Board of Directors are largely from Northville and its shareholders are mainly residents of Northville and its surrounding communities. Unlike larger banks whose main decision makers continue to move further and further away from the markets they serve (some are in other countries entirely), Main Street Bank is locally owned and managed.

As you enter Main Street Bank, you will immediately notice and feel the difference. Firstly, the atmosphere of Main Street Bank is much like home. You will be cheerfully greeted each time you enter and “once we’ve met you, we won’t forget you!" Main Street Bank is the Northville area’s hometown bank; and we make that extra effort to make sure you feel comfortable and at home when you visit.

One of the first things you will notice is that our front counter is much like that of an upscale hotel rather than a cold, impersonal teller line. Our waiting area or “family room” will always have the latest periodicals and comfortable seating. Customers and visitors alike can take advantage of complimentary seasonal treats and beverages….cider and donuts in the fall, hot cocoa and cookies in the winter, lemonade in the summer…you get the idea. Many stop in regularly to enjoy the treats, catch the news on the television or enjoy the latest edition of the Wall Street Journal or other periodical.

Our Personal Bankers and Lenders all conduct business in private offices. Rick and Audrey believe that financial information should be discussed in strict confidence. When you stop in to open an account, apply for a loan, discuss your financial options, or if you want to conduct a quick transaction, you will do so behind closed doors. Of course, you always have the option of seeing one of our Customer Service Representatives at the front counter to conduct your transaction as well.

Main Street Bank’s lenders are highly experienced and well regarded in the industry. While the Bank may be less than a year old, its mortgage lending staff has over 100 years of experience, including CEO Shaffner’s 25 years in the mortgage business. President Mistor has 24 years experience in banking and the commercial and consumer lending staff has an average of nearly 15 years experience. Our lenders will spend as much or as little time with you as you choose, based upon your needs. We will make recommendations to help you arrive at the best financial decisions possible for yourself, your family or your business.
Main Street Bank was started with the latest in technology. Our customers can access their accounts via the telephone, ATM/Debit Card, the Internet, or of course, with the help of your very own Personal Banker. Main Street customers also enjoy something no other bank offers, customers can access their funds through any ATM in the country up to six times per month completely free! That is, both fees typically charged when you use another bank, credit union or private ATM (those found at convenience stores, for example) are waived for six transactions each month! This provides our customers with free, wider access to ATMs than even the largest banks in the country!

Main Street offers all of the products and services you expect from a large bank with a personal, hometown touch. Main Street Bank’s loan product and services include:

Rick and Audrey and the rest of the Main Street team invite you to stop in for a visit and experience our hometown touch firsthand. And of course, we’d love to share with you how we can help you improve your financial situation!
