For you to have been paid this way you would have had to not only sign the required documentation but would also have had to furnish your banking information. For you to not have know this is a little hard to believe.

But, that being said, independent contractors are not eligible for unemployment. Plus you will owe the full State, Federal and S.S.I. taxes at the end of the year when you get your 1099

If you were being paid under the table, you basically screw yourself.

- No unemployment
- No employer contributions to your taxes (you'll feel the pain this april)
- No insurance
- At risk for getting audited and thrown in jail.
- You lose a lot of the protections under the law

You should have known you were getting paid under the table- didn't you ever look at your pay stub to double check your taxes were being done appropriately?

Your tale of woe is impossible to believe and the only reason you are playing dumb now is because you know YOU screwed YOURSELF big time. You might call the IRS and see if they will make you a deal if you turn the idiot you worked for in. Depends on how much he is cheating them but one way or the other your taxes will need to be paid or forgiven.

Don't use the I'm innocent defense they will see it as being just as bogus as we do!

Usually firing get you NO unemployment!

This is based on the info given and NO WHERE do you say you were a contract(S.E.) so I haven't a clue where that reply came from.

How old are you?
