How does ms money get financial statements from banks?

When using Microsoft Money, you can import your financial information by providing your bank information. Then, MS Money will import your balance and transactions. How is that done ? Is that a web service ? Or is that some agreement between MS and the banks? What I am wondering is, if there is some sort of...

I think it's a feature that the bank incorporates in its e-banking website, rather than an agreement between MS Money and every bank.

My bank, for example, doesn't support MS Money, but offers an alternative to download statements in a specific format.
