Call the bank in PA and ask them for a suggestion. If it was a while ago, the money may have been escheated to the state (the bank is required to turn over 'abandonded' property after a certain number of years), but they will tell you what to do to recover your money if that has happened.

Otherwise, they will probably have you write a letter to them requesting to close the account, and then they can send you a check which you can deposit in the new bank. But the procedure might vary based on the bank and the type of account you have (and if MOm set it up, maybe she is custodian or joint owner, and maybe she can go into the branch and take care of it for you.)

If you don't have any materials for the account in PA you may be out of luck. You may need to go to a bank back in PA and withdraw the cash. I'd call them and ask what can be done. If you haven't set up the account at the new bank you'll want to do that first. The new bank may allow you to make an online transfer from the old account if you know the account number and other details (which the old bank can give you).

You may be in for a rude awakening...if the old account has been dormant for a while, the monies may well have been transferred to the State already...and that's a whole new ballgame...

Call the bank and ask. You won't find out here.
