It`s easy to change Banks jst go in and set up an account
Tell all those you pay by DD your new bank details and your wages department .You can then arrange with your old Bank to pay off your OD Good Luck Vici

First of all, other banks may like to have your overdraft - then you will pay them interest.

I did this recently as I was going from Barclay's to Nat West to take advantage of a professional development loan.

You will need two forms of i.d. and three months statements, possibly a water bill or something like that as well.

You go in to the new bank and then they will change all the direct debits over after you fill out a new form. You basically are proving who you are and then authorizing them to do it.

My old account stayed open for a while and then it closed after about a month. I had two accounts, one was my old student one where I had to take out the 11p in person that was annoyingly in there to close it. My other account just transferred my balance automatically. This gives you a chance to tell new employers details etc. Once you get your new account details, you can tell your company the new bank account so they can pay your wages in. Should they pay it in by error to the old one, it will transfer automatically.

As regards the overdraft, pay it off first and it is a whole lot easier to change all of this. Otherwise, your new bank might say: well, you should have a loan etc. like the old one. or give you an account with a more punitive interest rate.

Go into your preferred new bank and talk it over with them. They do this all the time. They will want your custom. It is really easy and they pretty much do it all for you.

You can transfer your overdraft too. I believe alliance and leicester offer an interest free one for a year or so. The new bank should handle the dd's etc. If your employer is efficient shouldn't be too difficult to arrange, if they are not keep the old account and just transfer it across each time.
