Fishing off my own river bank?

Share |

Where I live the local angling club sells membership and day passes for people wanting to fish on the river that runs through my village. They have signs up saying "No Fishing, D...... Angling Club Only", does this mean that even though my family own the stretch of riverbank that runs outside our house...

there are actually a few lakes here where you can not fish off the bank even if you have a house there. you must go by the lake/river rules.

If your part of the bank is owned by you, then you can fish without their permission/joining their club. I assume they own the rights to the far bank anyway? That does not mean that you cannot fish beyond the halfway mark - they own the bank rights and not the rights to the water itself. Who gave me the thumbs down? This is a UK question - my answer is correct in that context, provided the asker has an EA licence, which he has stated that he does have - donut! Black Knight - In addition, it doesn't matter whether or not the asker owns or rents the property - the point is that the fishing rights of the angling club cannot extend over the private part of the bank! It is also stated that the asker lives ON and OWNS that part of the bank - he doesn't merely live NEAR the river. Fish away, my friend - no problem!

The river bank may run by your house but it doesn't necessarily mean you own it or the rights to fish off it !
Check the deeds to the property!
A lot of people who live near rivers assume wrongly that gives them rights!

Secondly do you or your family own or rent the property ?
The fact he claims to own does not necessarily mean he is ether correct in that assumption or does the claim prove ownership.
Secondly if said bank comes with in the boundary of his alleged property the how does a fishing club gain entry with out seeking the permission of the family?
This sounds like I live near a river bank therefore i own the river bank sorry that's not the case!

If you are riparian owner then you should own the fishing rights. The angling club you mention should be need permission from you if their members want to fish there. Do not forget you do need a rod licence (Post Office) if you want to use a rod on your own waters. This applies to the UK. Well said Pepper of the Moon.
