National City and let me tell you why.
They have a points program, and you get 2 points for every dollar of every purchase you make with your debit card, without using your pin. You get 25 points for every check and online payment. You can cash in for all kinds of stuff. 5/3 has a points program, but it takes forever to build up enough points to get anything worth a crap.
For regular consumer banking you're probably not going to see any appreciable difference between the two. So go with whoever has more convenient locations.
Fifth Third does have a reputation for having bad customer service and they're going through some major cost cutting now as they have to raise a significant amount of capital as a result of the stress test.
So maybe National City if location convenience is comparable.
National City the points program is great there and they have great customer service the bank manager calls me from time to time at my branch just to see how things are going for me and if there is anything she can do.
