Exactly how many investment banking internships are there for rising college seniors?

Hi I am a college freshman whose sister is going to be an intern this summer at Goldman Sachs. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know the exact amount of internships that all the venerable investment banks (i.e. the bulge bracket firms) give out to rising college seniors? I know factors such as the economy and...

If you're talking about just IBD, each BB bank has a class b/w 100-140. This year several banks, such as MS, cut their summer classes in half. Other banks, such as GS, tend to take on 50% more summer interns than they need and offer a much lower SA->FT conversation ratio. GS tends to offer 50-60% of its summer analysts a FT offer at the end of the summer, whereas banks such as JPM, LEH, and MER tend to offer 85%+ of their summers a FT offer.

If you're talking about IBD, S&T, Operations, and the whole slew of divisions within a bank, there are between 400-800 positions, depending on the size of the bank.

These numbers are for the NY offices only.

I will commend you on an excellent, intelligent, researched, question. As a "freshman" I can tell your direction in life will be a successful one.

I am not in the business but know many that are and have accepted as interns many of my friends college students. Investment banking accepts only the most intelligent, "goal" oriented, desiring to be successful, well spoken, etc., individuals for internship.

A very competitive, understanding a clients needs, type business for those "sharp" individuals. This is one of the businesses truly in support and understanding for college students to be given opportunity. I do know all the names you mentioned and if she is accepted as an intern with Goldman Sachs she is exceptional.

I do not know your direct answer and hopefully someone will. Good Luck in life, stay positive.
