For the past 4 months my bank as been making unauthorized stop payments on my debit card, which has prevented me from paying bills. Each month they repeatedly place a stop payment preventing me from paying my electric bill and insurance, despite that I have called them to have it removed each time. I have talked to...

Go looking for a credit union, unless you need to travel frequently between cities and states. A credit union will give the consumer a better deal than a bank does, in almost all areas. A multi-state bank will have branches in other cities, and if you do business in other cities on a frequent basis, then a bank might be better for your needs. But for most people, a credit union is a better choice.

Now, go to the bank. Withdraw all your money, except enough to cover any outstanding checks and any fees that you might owe for the month. Let the bank manager know why you're doing this. I know that you say that you can't change banks, but really, you can. And you should. If you have a positive balance in your account, then the bank CANNOT tell you that you can't withdraw that money.

Remove all the money you have in all accounts with this bank and open up a new account with another bank. There is absolutely no reason to deal with this bank any longer as they will not cooperate with you. You may need to inform those to whom you owe money that you are in the process of changing banks and will send them the payment as soon as the new bank gives you some temporary checks to use. Do this as soon as possible on Monday and you will have the temporary checks in your hand on Monday. You may want to consider putting your money in a credit union and you can also obtain loans from a credit union and receive higher interest than that from a bank.

I honestly don't believe this. I'm not saying you have to be lying, just that I don't believe a bank would go through the effort to do this for no reason. As to funds if you tried to transfer banks you could let the NEW BANK deal with the issue, you know darn well they would to get a new customer.

Withdraw a bunch of money, so you have cash, then move your money to an institution that won't keep screwing you over and saying they don't know why.

A local bank or credit union.

You can only sue if you can prove actual damages -- that is, any late fees you've been charged. Also, they have armies of lawyers to make the case stretch out for YEARS, or even decades.

It doesn't sound as though you have a basis to sue your bank.

It certainly sounds as though you have a really good reason to take your business elsewhere. I'm not sure why you have put up with this for four months. I would have gone to a new bank if they hadn't fixed the problem after two months.

Just transfer banks. What is stopping you aceessing your funds if you do that

time for a new bank. Try a credit union.
