I have done a lot of research but still can not find the answers to this question. I want to eventually get a job with an investment bank but from what it seems I would have to work in New York. I am from Washington DC and would like to work here, but I don't know the differences in the offices between here and...

You're right in that most investment banks have their large offices in NYC, but there are a lot of investment banking opportunities elsewhere.

The main difference between NY and other offices is the culture. NYC is probably a little more intense, longer hours, pays a little better, and you might be stuck doing more menial tasks (lots of comps, pitch books, modeling, and less client face time).

In other offices, the hours probably aren't as bad as New York, the clients are usually smaller companies, the pay is a little less, but you're more likely to have a little more responsibility (more involvement in deal execution, more client interaction, etc.).

I'm not that familiar with the DC market in particular, but these are some of the general differences between NY and non-NY investment banking offices.
