I presume you are not talking about cashing one of your own cheques which can be done straight away.,providing you have the funds available.If it is a third party cheque you are paying in you will have to wait until the it clears before being able to draw on it.This clearance can take a few days.If the cheque is for a fairly large amount it might be worth paying a special fee,I'm not sure what the Woolwich or Abbey charge,to get a special same day clearance.This fee would not be practical on cheque for a relatively small amount,
I guess 2-3 days, but then it takes a couple of days more until the cheque is cleared and you can actually use the money.
its between 7 - 10 working days with building society's but only 3 - 5 working days with a bank
