(This question probably makes me sound stupid, haha) I'm 14 and my mom wants me to get a bank card. Is this the same as a debit card? I'm going to Toronto in less than 3 days and I will be going shopping. I already have about $260 saved up. If I were to get a bank card, my teller (or whatever you call...

Well, the store has to accept cards at all, of course. But yes, if the bank card is issued with Visa or Mastercard behind it, as almost all of them are these days, it will be accepted anywhere that Visa or Mastercard credit cards are accepted.

The only exceptions would probably not affect you. Some hotels and almost all car rental agencies refuse bank cards (debit cards--same thing). That's because you could do lots of damage to the car or hotel room that they would have no way of charging to your bank card account Other than that, you are set to buy whatever you want, up to the $260 in your account, naturally.

A bank card (the typical term in the US), a debit card (the typical term in Canada), and ATM card -- these all all names for the same thing.

You can use your card at any store which accepts debit. Which means almost all of them. You won't have any trouble spending your $260 in Toronto through your debit card.
