No, you will have to pay the company that owns the debt in this case the debt collector. Pull your free credit report from https://annualcreditreport.com, and make sure Bridgeport is the company reporting the debt.

If they are reporting the debt they own it, and you have to pay them. If you pay, pay by money order only, never give a debt collector access to your credit or bank account number.

NEVER give collection agencies your credit card numbers or bank account numbers...they'll take out way more they you authorize.
If your bank has turned the account over to a 3rd party debt collector, then you'll have to pay them....
- Offer to settle @ 25% of the amount due and go from there.
- Get all terms of any settlement deal you reach with debt collectors IN WRITING BEFORE you give them your money. This letter should state the settlement amount and that the account will be settled/paid in full upon receipt of this amount from you. Never accept settlement deals over the phone that are not backed up in written terms. If you don’t, the debt collectors will deny that any settlement was ever made once they get your “settlement” money and will come back demanding more money from you.
- Pay only via USPS money order. Photocopy and keep in your permanent records along with the settlement letter.

The bad news is that you are probably in the CheckSystems database...which is the national bad check database. This can make opening checking accounts or writing checks to stores very difficult...You'll be in this even if you pay back the overdrafts in full.
