Best Bank For A Soon To Be Collage Student.?

What are some good bank options for a soon to be collage student in Southern California? I work about 15 hours a week making minimum wage and am planning on saving up for a car. I'd also be nice if they're a good amount of locations to visit, but not if it compensates a fair interest rate.

Most major banks offer student oriented accounts - check for them online.

Things you may want to consider:

If you open an account with a parent/guardian as co-owner, they will be able to transfer funds to your account easily online for any 'emergencies'.

Look for one with the smallest possible if any required minimum balance(s) to qualify for no check fees and no monthly account charges.

Look for one that automatically uses the savings component for checking overdraft protection - plan and practice to keep some reserve in savings above any minimum required.

You may like an associated debit card but with a credit card company logo - they're accepted more widely.

Consider ATM locations - especially if as a first year student you may not be able to keep your car on campus if you are not a commuter.

Lastly, and sorry, but don't expect much if anything in the way of interest earnings. However, an account with no fees and charges can effectively be better than one with fees but that pays a little interest.

Good luck in your endeavors.
