There are no Canadian banks anywhere in the United States.

Now there are some Canadian banks that have affiliate banks in the United States. Those would be BMO and TD Canada Trust. BMO's affiliate, Harris Bank is in the midwest. TD Canada Trust's affiliate, TD Bank, is along the Eastern Seaboard.

Royal Bank of Canada sold its affiliated bank in the southeast. And CIBC hasn't had an affiliated bank in the US for over a decade. The reason is that US banks offer much better deals to customers than banks in Canada and neither was ever able to adapt in dealing in the competitive US banking market.

He will at least need a US bank. His company will not be able to deposit his pay to a Canadian bank. If you are working, your Canadian pay can not be deposited into a US bank. Consider Scotiabank and Bank of America. They are both part of the Global ATM Alliance. Depositors of one bank can withdraw money from an ATM of the other without fees. Bank of America has tons of branches in San Francisco, the city where it started. And Scotiabank has a lot of branches in Toronto.
