Hi, I'm 19 and in the Army. I have a checking account from Armed Forces Bank complete with a debit card. I just moved into my barracks at Fort Campbell, KY/TN and my checkbook and bank statements(stating my account number that I do not know by heart) are somewhere in my luggage which are all in a messy pile...

Banks in Fort Campbell, KY

That would basically be a " cash advance" and most banks have a limit of $400/day.. not $7200... and the "fee" would be astronomical. Not a wise move soldier...

In my banking experience, it is highly unlikely another bank will issue you an official check if you do not have an account with them for several reasons. When they issue you a check, they are guaranteeing that those funds are available. If you are at a different bank than your own, they have no way of checking on their systems whether or not the funds are good. Sure, if they process your debit card through their cash advance system and it says "approved," it would seem as though you are in the clear, but what's to say that you didn't deposit a fradulent check into your bank account (which I'm sure you wouldn't) and that's where the funds are coming from? A bank is going to want to see that those funds have been in the account for a certain amount of time before they guarantee them. They deal with all sorts of people pulling scams and have to cover their backs. That is unless you bring them cash, but even then some banks will require that you have a bank account with them in order to issue you an official/cashier's check in order to comply with the Bank Secrecy Act, which requires them to keep track of certain cash transactions in order to combat money laundering/ terrorism.

I guess you have the cash in your bank (for immediate withdrawal by your debit card) and that the car is worth it. Remember, you have to buy insurance right away, too, and that can be expensive. You might want to find the local branch of your military bank and get an inexpensive car loan so your cash is available for those other expenses. I bought a car that way (decades ago!) when I was in the military. {It only cost $3,100 brand new. Eat your heart out! But I only got $300/month.} The others are right about banks being skittish about fraud, in general; nothing personal. [If you gave them green cash, they would issue you a cashier's check; which is like a money order from the post office.] Protect your wallet, your money, and your future by staying out of those instant loan check cashing places!!! Their fees and interest rates will kill you! And keep your head down. God bless.

I work for a bank, and if all you have is your debit card and your state license/passport...(a primary ID) you can go into any bank that has a cash advance machine and ask for a cash advance for the amount you need. I would make sure that your debit card will allow you to draw out that amount of 7200. (debit cards at the bank I work at usually have a daily limit of 310) To get that limit increase you may be able to call your bank and ask them to increase the daily limit for a day or even see if there is a daily limit at all. The cash advance is exactly was it sounds like, its a way to get cash off of your card. Now your debit card issuer may charge a fee, but usually where the cash advance takes place will not. (At least, the bank i work for doesn't) I hope this helps so you can give your friend cash

Isn't there a branch of your bank where you are stationed? If so, go there and they will help you get a cashier's check.

Next examine your personal habits and try to plan how to keep the essentials ready at hand, even during a move. This takes some forethought but will serve you well.
