What you have is called a National Bank Note. Until 1934, individual national banks were allowed to issue banknotes of this type, which were backed by US Treasury bonds.
That particular one, from the First National Bank of the City of New York (29 is the charter number of the bank) is one of the more common banks of this type. In low grade, your note should sell for around $50.
