Several years ago, there was a nice local, small bank chain in the Canton area that had a great article in the Friday edition of the AJC featuring the president telling about it's history, local involvement, local roots, etc. About how it would always be there for the local citizens...blah, blah, blah...

On Monday, just 3 days later, the same paper covered the story about the that same bank being sold...all of a sudden, it seemed like the stockholders were more important.

That's the risk of getting a small bank. Getting one smaller than Bank of America or Wells Fargo is one thing, but too small could be worse...Georgia has one of the highest rates of bank failures over the past two years of any state in the country! As mentioned, take a look at Regions, but also take a look at BB & T which also provides great service and has been around since the 1800's.

I think that you should find an FDIC-insured bank that's convenient to where you live or work, regardless of the size.

If you like small and Woodstock is convenient, I'm pleased with Cherokee Bank.

As an FYI, a few years ago I bought a CD at Integrity Bank in Roswell. I was bowled over by their customer service, lovely office, and the delicious bakery cookies they always had for their customers. Well, this "lovely" bank went under and was taken over by Regions....
