PNC bank "dress code" (Pittsburgh, PA)?

Share |

PNC bank has signs on the door asking people to remove hats, hoods, sunglasses. They use a bogus excuse that "we want to recognize our customers" but it's obviously to prevent robberies. Yet lo and behold a Muslim can walk in wrapped from head to foot and they won't say a word. Anything...

Yes its total BS. I work at a bank and we have that same sign on our door except we tell people Straight out its so we can get a good picture on our cameras if we get robbed. We aren't allowed to ask them to remove their head wraps because of exactly what you said religious discrimination.

Well, some religions do, in fact, have those types of dress codes, so you really can't say it's a load of BS. It is a part of someone's religion. But, yes, fear of discrimination lawsuits is definitely in the back of their heads.

I agree that it would be extremely easy for someone to pose as a very conservative muslim with the thought to rob a bank and I wouldn't be surprised if someone tried it.

Until then, though, can't really do much. Laws protect people from so-called religious discrimination.

However, if there were robberies/crimes committed by fake muslims, perhaps laws would change.

It's a sticky situation...

I guess you have a good point, but I have to say in my observance of Muslims living in America living their daily lives most times they wear their turban and like head wear and leave their faces open. The only people who seem to have to cover their head and most of faces are Muslim women, obviously in accordance with their religious beliefs.

I suppose if a criminal wants to be clever, they could pretend to be a Muslim woman and dress up like one and rob a bank, in which banks will perceive a new threat and may change their policies. I think you really raise a good point and you should bring it to the attention of the bank if it bothers you that much.
