I must be living in the last century, cause I've never heard of Bank anywhere asking for a credit check in order to open a checking account. Most banks are content w/a sizable deposit to start the account - and normal things like State ID card or Drivers License and perhaps a piece of mail to the account holder to prove address requirement.
